“THE
PEACEWEAVER’S WEB”
The title of the tapestry is from an Icelandic word meaning:
mediator for two disputing parties during the annual Icelandic
parliament, and the weaver's term, “web”, which is
the completed
fabric on the loom of both warp and weft threads.
The
tapestry was woven in five months (about five hours daily),
in triple persian and rug wools on linen warp, 4 double ends
per inch. Each section: 36" x 49" Overall: 49" x 108"
First
shown at the Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg, Massachusetts,
in 1995. It has also been shown at the Killian Gallery, Sharon,
New Hampshire,
1997; the Dubose and Stowell Galleries in Harpers Ferry,
1999; and the
Entler Gallery, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, during the
Israeli/Syrian
Peace Conference, January of 2000, where the artist was
honored by a
visit by President Bill Clinton. Also shown at the Library
Arts Center,
Richards Free Library, Newport, N.H., 2003.
